My neighbor allows his dog to run on my property. Is there anything I can do? My neighbor has a cat that is allowed to run freely outdoors night and day. Is there anything the town can do?

Town ordinance requires that dogs must be on a leash or under voice control. Roaming cats can be considered a public nuisance. If discussing this with your neighbor proves unsuccessful, you may call the Dane County Humane Society at 838-0413 ext. 117 or Animal Control Dispatch at 255-2345. Please be ready to provide the animal's description and an idea of its' recent whereabouts. If you are reluctant to make this call for any reason, call the Town Hall and we can make the call for you during business hours.

We were  assessed last year, why are we being assessed again?

The town conducts an assessment of each property every year. This conforms to state law and maintains values at 100% of market price for tax purposes. This benefits tax payers by treating everyone equally and allows the lowest mill rate calculation.

Someone keeps parking their car on the road in front of my house, leaving no room for my own guests and family members to park there. Can something be done?

Town ordinance prohibits habitual parking in the road right-of-way. If this is the case, town personnel will take the appropriate steps to remedy the situation. Many residents have good luck in talking to the car owners when a special event or other situation necessitates more parking than the driveway will accommodate.

My neighbor  has junk piles and unlicensed, inoperable cars parked on his property. Is this legal?

No. Report both these conditions to the Town Hall at 873-3063. Both town ordinance and the Dane County Code of Ordinances prohibit these practices.

I'm very concerned about the excessive speed of some of the traffic in front of my house. Who should I call?

Report these incidents, with a vehicle description and license number whenever possible, to the Dane County Sheriff at 266-9122.

I have a mattress/couch/fridge/air conditioner to dispose of. Will this be picked up with the rest of my trash on the regular pick-up day?

Special arrangements must be made for disposal of these items. Call Waste Management at 273-2500 for assistance. Some items require the payment of an extra fee. You may also try Clean Sweep-Hazardous Waste Site at 294-5358. For appliance disposal, try Moor's Salvage at 223-9220.

When are the right-of-way ditches mowed?

The Public Works crew mows roadside ditches twice each year - once in early spring before the bird nesting season, and once in the fall to facilitate road clearance when snowplowing.

I live on a property served by a town gravel road. What are the guidelines for snowplowing gravel roads?

Gravel roads are plowed only when more than three inches of snow falls in a single event, and after all main roads are clear; this may be as long as seventy-two hours after the snow event. Please do not call the Public Works staff to ask when a gravel road will be plowed. The staff does the best job they can to clear all  75 miles of paved and gravel roads promptly and efficiently.

My trash/recyclables did not get picked up. What can be done?

Before calling the Town Hall to report the lack of pick-up, please check the following:

1. Was your trash at the roadway by 6:00 a.m.? If not, the carrier may already have passed by. Put your trash out again the following Monday. Is this the correct day for recycling? Recyclables are picked up every other week only. Call the Town Hall for a copy of the recycling calendar.

 2. Did the carrier tag your trash because it was not properly bagged, overweight, improperly sorted for recyclables or contained something that cannot legally be picked up? If the trash is tagged, please make the necessary changes to allow Waste Management to make the pick-up. You can obtain a copy of the guidelines for disposal at Town Hall.

3. If the items are not tagged AND it is after 5:30 p.m. on the regularly scheduled pick-up day, call Waste Management at 273-2500 to report the lack of service. If you are reluctant to make the call for any reason, you may contact Town Hall at 873-3063 and we will make the call for you during business hours.
