Town Meeting Agendas and Posting Places:
A detailed agenda for each meeting
is posted a minimum of 24 hours before the meeting date.

The 9 Step Process to Obtain a Rezone,
Conditional Use Permit, Variance, Special Use Permit, Preliminary Certified
Survey Map, Final Certified Survey Map - The time required to complete the
process will vary per request. Some take 2-3 months, others 6 months or more.
The extent to which you prepare and the schedules of government bodies &
agencies are the two biggest factors affecting the length of the process.

# 2 Get Started with Your Request
- Obtain from the Town office (see bottom of
page for address, phone number and hours):
- application
- site plan form
- notice of required attachments, if any
(Example: Property zoned A1-EX must obtain soil interpretations sheets
from the Dane County Land conservation Office.)
- your Town Planning Commission contact
person information
- Get in touch with your Town Planning
Commission contact person. This person will:
- help you understand what you need to do
- answer questions
- probably, schedule a site visit to your
property
- make formal motions to the Town Planning
Commission about your request
- Return your application and site plan (plus
any other required attachments) to the Town office. The original plus 12
copies are required.
- with the application fee (indicated on the
application materials)
- provide any other relevant information for
consideration
- deadline date is 3 PM Monday, three
Mondays prior to the Planning commission meeting
- upon receipt of all application materials
your request will be placed on the next available Town Planning
Commission agenda. (A maximum of nine (9) items may be placed on one
agenda. Additional items are held over to the following meeting.
- You will be notified of the meeting at which
your request will be first heard.
# 3 Preliminary Action by Town Planning
Commission
- The current property owner is required to
attend this meeting. You will be asked to explain your request and answer
questions.
- If you bring information to the meeting, bring
12 copies for the commission members.
- The Planning Commission will review the
request for consistency with the Town Land Use
Plan.
- Actions the commission may take include:
- table the request, pending receipt of
additional information
- vote to recommend preliminary
approval to the Town Board
- vote not to recommend to the Town
Board
#4 Preliminary Action by the Town Board
- The property owner is expected to attend the
next scheduled Town Board meeting. You will have
an opportunity to explain your request and anser questions.
- The Town Planning Commission reports on the
request and recommendation to the Town Board.
- Actions the commission may take include:
- Table the request, pending receipt of
additional information
- Vote for preliminary approval by
the Town Board
- Vote not to approve the request
# 5 Public Hearing with Dane County Zoning
- File an application (and fee) with Dane County
Zoning
- You will be given a public hearing date to
appear before the Dane County Zoning and Natural Resources Committee
- Property owners within 1/4 mile of your
request will be notified of the public hearing.
# 6 Final Recommendation by the Town Planning
Commission
The County will send a Notice of Public Hearing to the commission. Your
request will be put on the next available commission agenda.
- You will be notified of the commission meeting
at which the request will be considered
- The property owner is expected to attend the
commission meeting. You will have an opportunity to speak to the request and
answer questions
- Actions the commission may take include:
- table the request, pending receipt of
additional information
- seek deed restrictions related to the
request
- vote to recommend final approval to the
Town Board
- vote not to recommend to the Town Board
# 7 Final Action by the Town Board
- The property owner is expected to attend the
next scheduled Town Board meeting. You will have an opportunity to explain
your request and answer questions.
- The Town Planning Commission reports on the
request and recommendation to the Town Board.
- Actions the commission may take include:
- table the request, pending receipt of
additional information
- vote for final approval by the Town Board
- vote not to approve the request
- The Town Board will notify Dane County Zoning,
in writing of the final action taken.
# 8 Final Action by Dane County
- the Dane County Zoning Commission will review
the action of the Town Board and approve or deny the request.
# 9 Your Follow-up Action
- if approved, you may implement your request
- if not approved, you may resubmit your request
(with or without changes) one year from the date of final action by the town
board
- if not approved, you may suspend your request
- if not approve, you may be able to appeal
