Obtaining Access From Private Property to a Town Road
It is the policy of the Town of Pleasant Springs to consider the following
factors in deciding to allow an access to a town road for any residential,
commercial, agricultural or manufacturing property within the town.
- The maximum number of accesses allowed to serve a residential, commercial
or manufacturing property shall be two (2), provided that when two (2)
accesses are used, there is also at least two hundred (200) feet of total
road frontage on the road from which the accesses serve the parcel.
- There shall be one residence, commercial, or manufacturing access allowed
for the first acre of the served property, and one additional residence,
commercial or manufacturing access will be considered if the property
exceeds one (1) acre in size.
- Field access roads are counted as an access and will be considered by the
Town Board to determine the appropriate number and location to serve the
property and maintain safety.
- For corner parcels, or parcels abutting more than one road, access (es)
shall be allowed from only one of the roads abutting the parcel.
- Where two accesses serve a parcel, or a second access is considered, the
centerlines of the accesses shall be at least two hundred (200) feet apart
and satisfy the side setback requirements of the zoning classification of
the subject property.
- All accesses serving any property must be at least two hundred (200) feet
from the intersection of any town/town or town/county roads.
- Aesthetic reasons will not be considered as a factor in placement or
approval of an additional property access.
- All agricultural access roads, all residence accesses, all commercial and
all manufacturing access roads require Access Permits and must be approved
by the Town Board through the normal permitting process.
- Nothing can be placed in the road right-of-way except legally constructed
mailboxes.
- All dimensions and construction of accesses will adhere to the standards
set by Dane County and the Town of Pleasant Springs.
- The Town Board may consider exceptions to the provisions above, where
deemed necessary and feasible for reasonable and adequate service to the
property, and safety and utility of the road. Accesses may be approved for
commercial, agricultural, residential, manufacturing and other use areas
where deemed appropriate by the Board.
Obtain an Application/Permit by contacting the Public works staff at (608)
